A federal grand jury in Pikeville , KY. has indicted two men, one from Magoffin County, and one from Johnson County, for distributing fentanyl in Johnson County.
Kevin Douglas Clay, 47, of Staffordsville, KY., and William C. Hylton, 38, of Salyersville, KY., were charged Thursday evening.
Both Kevin Clay and William Hylton are charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl, possession with the intent to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl, and two counts of aiding and abetting the distribution of fentanyl. Kevin Clay is additionally charged with distributing fentanyl and possession of a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking crime.
Both of the men could potentially face life sentences in federal prison; Kevin Clay for the gun charge, and William Hylton for having a previous drug trafficking conviction.
Kevin Clay is currently being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville, where has been since arrest on April 25, 2023, by trooper Dustin Thompson of the Kentucky State Police Post 9-Pikeville, KY., on the charge of AGGRAVATING TRAFFICKING IN CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (> OR = 28 GRAMS (FENTANYL).
Prosecutors from the Assistant U.S. Attorney Office-Eastern District, are seeking an arrest warrant from a federal judge for William Hylton’s arrest, since he was out on bond from his last arrest on March 21, 2023, for a Failure To Appear charge from a bench warrant for not appearing for a scheduled court date.
