Eastern, Ky. — Lawrence Co. ( 18-10 ) will play for the 58th District baseball championship after a 9-0 win over Betsy Layne ( 9-15 ) on Monday at Floyd Central.

Jake Derifield was really good on the mound versus Betsy Layne Monday.

Jake Derifield tossed a complete game one hitter to get the win, struck out seven and walked one. He also singled and had one RBI offensively.

Will Lafferty has been hotter than a firecracker and that continued Monday.

Will Lafferty had three hits including a double, drove in five runs and scored twice, Abner Collinsworth had two hits including a double and scored once, Eli Fletcher singled and had one RBI, Braydan Maynard scored three times and had one RBI, Boedy Maynard singled and scored, Dylan Whitt and Talon Pollack scored a run and Cody Crum had one RBI.

Lawrence Co. will be looking for their eighth straight District Championship.

The Bulldogs will face Floyd Central ( 14-15 ) after the Jaguars upset Prestonsburg in the second game Monday 5-2 for the championship on Wednesday at 6:00.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Travis Feltner

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Great start to our post season run. We played very clean and Jake Derifield did an excellent job of getting us back in the dugout and the defense was right where we need to be. Talon Pollock made a couple of real nice plays defensively and Will Lafferty continued to swing a very hot bat leading the way offensively.”
