Fort Gay, W.Va. — It had been 26 years since Fort Gay Middle had won the Wayne Co. Football championship and on Sunday the team received rings they had patiently been waiting on.

The Vikings avenged an earlier loss to Ceredo-Kenova to win the Wayne Co.  championship for the first time since 1996.

Fort Gay finished the season 8-1 and now the 8th Graders are looking forward to taking that success to Tolsia high school this coming fall.

Fort Gay Head Coach Steve Stroud

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… After falling in the Championship game in 2021 and losing to C-K earlier in the season our team was chomping at the bit to get another shot at them and when we did they boys took full advantage and we came away with the Championship.”

“… Great bunch of kids from top to bottom and our entire coaching staff is so proud of them. Our community is second to none and showed up all year long wearing the orange and black.”

“… Want to thank everyone for making today possible. These kids really deserve everything that they good. They have really worked hard the last couple of years and I look for that to continue at the high school level.”
