EVIL DUO: ALEXANDRA M. DATSON-WARD, 20, OF CORBIN, KY., & JORDAN BLAKE TAYLOR, 22, OF CORBIN, KY, WERE INDICTED ON CHARGES IN WHITLEY COUNTY IN THE DEATH OF DATSON-WARD’S THREE (3) YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, AMOURA SMALLWOOD

A southeastern Kentucky mother is now facing charges in connection with the death of her young daughter, along with the mother’s boyfriend.

A Whitley County Grand Jury met earlier in April, and on Monday, April 17, the indictments they agreed to return were read in open court, revealing the indictments of the two as a result of an extensive investigation relating to the death of the three (3) year old toddler in Whitley County,

Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London, KY., located in Laurel County, began this case investigation in Whitley County involving the death of 3 year-old Amoura Smallwood on February 19, 2023.

KSP Post 11 Lead Detective Logan Gay recently presented this case to the Whitley County Grand Jury, who returned indictments on the infant’s mother,  Alexandra M. Datson-Ward, 20, of Corbin, KY., and her boyfriend, Jordan Blake Taylor, 22, also of Corbin, KY.

The mother’s boyfriend, Jordan Taylor, was initially charged. However, prosecutors says the mother is to blame as well.

Both individuals have been indicted on the following charges:

Alexandria Datson-Ward was charged with. *MURDER (Complicity), *STRANGULATION 1ST DEGREE (Complicity),

Jordan Taylor was charged with. *MURDER, *SODOMY 1ST DEGREE VICTIM UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE, *STRANGULATION 1ST DEGREE.

Jordan Taylor, who was arrested on February 20, after 3-year-old Amoura died at the hospital, was indicted on the murder, sodomy and strangulation charges. However, right after that indictment was read, another indictment was read for Amoura’s mother, 20-year-old Alexandra Ward, who was sitting in the front row of the courtroom.

Alexandra Ward, along with other friends and family in court, showed clear shock and surprise when a Whitley County deputy sheriff took Ward out of the courtroom in handcuffs and took her to the sheriff’s office for processing.

STUNNED: MOTHER OF MURDERED TODDLER ALEXANDRA DATSON-WARD IS LED AWAY IN HANDCUFFS FROM THE WHITLEY COUNTY COURTHOUSE TO THE WHITLEY COUNTY SHERIFF OFFICE; AFTER HER INDICTMENTFOR COMPLICITY IN THE DEATH OF HER DAUGHTER.

“In Kentucky, you have an affirmative legal duty as a parent to protect your children and keep them from harm. In addition to being a moral duty, it is a legal obligation,” said Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Ronnie Bowling. “Parents that fail to protect their children from suffering and consequences like this are liable for the crime like they committed it themselves.”

Mr. Bowling says he has never seen a child abuse case like this one. He says there was evidence, and the grand jury agreed, that Alexandra Ward took no effort to protect her daughter.

Both Alexandra Datson-Ward &Jordan Taylor are being held at the Whitley County Detention Center in Williamsburg, with each of their bonds set at $1,000,000 full cash only.
