UNLUCKY OF THE IRISH? PAINTSVILLE DENTIST GETS ARRESTED LATE NIGHT ST. PATRICK’S DAY ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATING POLICE OFFICER, AND OTHER CHARGES

MAGOFFIN COUNTY NATIVE MESSAGED ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO ONE OF HIS YOUNG FEMALE PATIENTS TO COME AND “SMOKE THE GREEN” WITH HIM
MARCH 22, 2023 – written by WADE QUEEN

CELEBRATING ST.PATRICK’S DAY A LITTLE TOO HARD & OF THE ILLEGAL KIND AS WELL: RICHARD L. CONNELLEY, 69,OF SALYERSVILLE, KY., WHO WORKS AS A DENTIST IN PAINTSVILLE, WAS ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER, DUI, AND MARIJUANA POSSESSION, AFTER HE MESSAGED ONE OF HIS WAY YOUNGER FEMALE PATIENTS ON FACEBOOK TO COME & SMOKE “SOMETHING  GREEN” FOR THE IRISH HOLIDAY

A Magoffin County man who works in Paintsville as a dentist, ended up suffering the spirits of the unlucky Irish kind, after he was arrested on charges including DUI and impersonating a peace officer, along with messaging a young woman to meet him to smoke a substance that obviously a different kind of green that were not ‘four leaf clovers’ after a March 17, St. Patrick’s Day incident.

The arrest citation report said that just before 9:00 P.M., on Friday night, March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day), Paintsville Police Department officers Tyler Cable and Justin Jackson responded to a call that a man was in the Mayo Plaza in Paintsville and was trying to get a woman to “come and smoke some Hawaiian Pineapple Express marijuana” with him in his truck. According to the arrest citation, officer Jackson approached the vehicle and asked the driver, Richard L. Connelley, 69, of Middle Fork Road, in Salyersville, KY., for identification.

After presenting his driver’s license, Richard Connelley told officer Jackson that he was a sheriff’s deputy in Magoffin County and had “been with the department for (more than) 12 years,” the arrest citation said, before presenting a badge.

Officer Jackson then requested that Paintsville emergency dispatch reach out to Magoffin County Sheriff Bill Meade, who stated to the dispatch that Richard Connelley was not a deputy and that he “had no idea how he even got the badge because he didn’t give the badge” to him.

Once officer Tyler Cable began to question Richard Connelley about the badge, the arrest citation said, Mr. Connelley advised officer Cable that he was a dentist in Paintsville, after he put his hands in his pockets and pulled out “two blank checks and money.” Officer Cable seized the badge with the intent to return it to the Magoffin County Sheriff Office and was advised by Richard Connelley that he was a deputy once again, according to the arrest citation.

Officer Tyler Cable noted in the arrest citation that Connelley smelled strongly of marijuana, had bloodshot eyes, a dry mouth and poor coordination.

The unidentified woman, according to the arrest citation, said Richard Connelley had texted her and “wanted to smoke weed,” and was asking her questions about where she lived and her birthday.

The arrest citation further said the woman stated that Richard Connelley had opened the messages by asking if she had been “brushing and flossing her teeth,” and had then sent her a picture of a “large amount of marijuana” before stating that he had done so accidentally. According to the citation, Richard Connelley texted, “Ooppss, I didn’t mean to send that to you. LOL.”

The woman stated that she had visited Richard Connelley’s office before and that it smelled “just like marijuana,” the arrest citation said. She expressed fear for herself and other females because “(Connelley) was a dentist and had not only her information but other female’s information,” and wondered how many times Richard Connelley had done this to other females that were “too scared to say anything about it,” the arrest citation said.

Paintsville police also reviewed the Facebook messages that Richard Connelley had sent to the woman.
A search of Richard Connelley’s vehicle revealed a marijuana “roach” under the driver’s seat; and Richard Connelley was arrested and taken to Paintsville ARH, where he submitted to a blood test and declined contact with an attorney. Richard Connelley was transported to and was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on the charges of:

  • OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER/ INFLUENCE SUBSTANCE (189A.010(1C) – 1ST OFFENSE,
  • IMPERSONATING A PEACE OFFICER,
  • POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA,
  • EXCESSIVE WINDSHIELD/ WINDOW TINTING,
  • FAILURE TO PRODUCE INSURANCE CARD.

Maybe he was a special deputy under the previous sheriff? They should check into that.
