Susie Rice

LOUISA, KY. — The vacant seat on the Lawrence County, Ky. Board of Education will be filled by Susie Rice, a Louisa resident entering her first stint in local politics.  If the Board approves, she will serve the remainder of the term.

School chief Dr. Rob Fletcher said today that Ms. Rice, was the only qualified applicant for the position made vacant when board chairman Heath Preston took a job in the Cincinnati area  and moved his family there. He resigned last month.

Fletcher said Ms. Rice will be installed at the January 31, 2023 special board meeting along with the meeting on building projects and a new tax to pay for nearly $30 million in new spending. The state will provide much of the funding, Fletcher said.

“I am very excited to start serving on the Board of Education, Ms. Rice told The Lazer.  “I love the Lawrence County community and feel that I can contribute positively to the current board to make sure every student is on the path to graduate and equipped to lead a successful life.”

“I feel that exciting things are happening in our schools and I am happy to be a part of that.”

Fletcher reserved comment until Ms. Rice is officially approved by the board.
