Southern Baptist Convention head says blind partisanship ‘destroys everything,’ criticizes Christian nationalism, Trump

Bart Barber, the newly elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention, is opposed to Christian nationalism, the leader of of America’s largest evangelical institution told Anderson Cooper in an interview that aired Sunday on “60 Minutes.” Barber was critical of the SBC’s handling of a years-long sexual abuse scandal and Donald Trump, and said blind partisanship “destroys everything.”

Bart Barber (60 Minutes)

About 60% of white evangelicals believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen, said Ryan Burge, a professor, pastor and data analyst on religion and politics. Barber, however, said he believes that President Joe Biden was legitimately elected. Prior to the 2016 election, Barber called Trump a “demonstrably evil man” and didn’t vote for him. Barber did vote for Trump in the 2020 election, noting that he was encouraged by the former president’s advocacy for sentencing reform and his consistent pro-life support. The pastor’s opinion of Trump turned negative again after the president incited a mob to storm the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“I, and I think a lotta Southern Baptists, would be thrilled to have the opportunity to support someone for leadership in our country who’s strong on the values that matter to us, who can do that without putting the vice president’s life in danger,” Barber said.
Barber was elected president of the SBC in June, just a month after an investigation revealed that the convention’s prior leadership had for decades “ignored hundreds of credible accusations of sexual abuse in Southern Baptist churches and seminaries, partly to avoid being held financially liable,” Cooper reports. Barber said that sort of behavior is what he’s trying to work against, adding that at times the SBC did more than just ignore sexual abuse victims but sometimes “impugned their motives. Sometimes we attacked them.” Barber said he’s cooperating with a Justice Department investigation and appointed a sexual abuse task force that’s building a registry of credible abuse reports to help churches track predators.
“I have strong feelings about this,” Barber said. “I’m — it’s not just anger. Although I’m angry about it. God called me to be a pastor when I was 11. I believe in this. For people to sully this hurts me. I’m not doing this to try to accomplish some PR objective for us.  I’m doing this because I wanna serve God well.”

The Orange Jesus followers are going to be mad at this guy how dare you tell the Truth about the 2020 election

How many preachers do you trust? Just another talking head. Liberal media has already started their leftist woke propaganda.

Keeping it Wrong 60% of the Orange Jesus’s Sheep believe the election was stolen so I guess you can say that’s one Preacher the Flock trust.

When you have a man who was the laughing stock of Washington politics and a documented liar and Plagiariser for decades, whom the democrat party didn’t even initially want as their nominee, who pretty much didn’t even campaign and couldn’t draw 20 people the few times he did venture outside while his opponent was drawing 20-30 thousand at every single stop, yet manages to somehow get the most votes of any presidential candidate in American history including Barack Obama , then it’s not too difficult to understand why a lot of people would question the 2020 election results.

The president of the SBC, Bart Barber, speaks only for himself with regards to politics, not for the organization, organizational churches or individual Christians. He is a representative of the SBC and their leader to guide them by the grace of God through internal and external challenges to spread the Gospel of Jesus to the lost. However, to speak on national television, reflective of personal opinions, which are NOT representative of Christians or SBC church members as a whole, is sad and misleading. He should resign his position and stick to preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It appears he has judged Mr. Trump and his actions/inactions on Jan 6 as well as the impact Mr. Trump’s opinions may have had on the perceptions of a fair election. Declaring Mr. Trump a demonstrably evil man. As a pastor/preacher you should stand up for the Gospel, against the government even when it goes against the Word of God, but not share your opinion when you represent millions of southern Baptists that has no bearing on the Truth; you are NOT the judge – God is! Shame on you..

Never before we have not had a peaceful transfer of power until your Orange Jesus came along.
First who told you the election was stolen?
      Second where’s your PROOF?
And yes we had a sitting President watching and cheering on his people for over 3 hours beating the police officers.

I totally agree with you. It’s never a pastors job to do a thing like this.

To KAG: Republican people are equally as good as any democrat. You are a judge mental thorn, and your need for causing division is embarrassing to humanity. You’re no better than Barber.

Trump did not incite a mob…the march was hijacked by expertly trained elements of the DOJ, to do precisely what they did, and effect the march to ridicule Trump rather than support him…. as suggested to them by Nancy Pelosi and coherts…the march became a tragic event due to the clandestine efforts exerted by the DOJ elements, and “of course” the media that hyperventilated their leftist biased excitement to the public at large….why did they,(Pelosi and the Mayor of Washington), refuse the thousands national guard troops, (authorized by Trump two days prior), to provide additional security of the capitol …and, if he was planning an insurrection why did he authorize them?? Against himself??? It doesn’t require a genius to disprove that logic. I fear Mr Burge descends from a long line of democrats and just can’t recognize the personal indwelling of the possibility of blind partisanship being associated with his views. To date, it has not been “proven” that the election was not stolen…Through a process of dubious merit an official judgment was established stating that the election was legitimate…that is not proof!! It only sheds more doubt of legitimacy on the entire matter.

Then can you explain your Orange Jesus watching and cheering on his people while they beat up the cops?

Former Rep. Micheal “Ozzie” Myers pleaded guilty to frequently stuffing ballots, conspiring to illegally vote in a federal election and deprive civil rights, voting records falsification, and bribery in favor of Democratic candidates, according to a Department of Justice press release. He carried out the schemes in Pennsylvania during the 2014,2015,2016, and 2018 elections.

This man needs to resign or rethink the position he took. He is in no position to judge anyone. He seems to carry a lot of hate and anger inside him. In his personal life he can support whoever he wants. In his professional life he was hired to lead the church back to where it needs to be. It has been hiding sexual abuse and who knows what else. His remarks about President Trump were unnecessary. He has important issues to address. Trump is not one of them. If he has no more vision for the southern baptist than to jump on the political wagon then he needs to resign. There are enough monkeys in that circus.

Your Orange Jesus is the main issue he wants to be King it’s that simple if he does run again he will not make the same mistakes bet money on that.
