INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO PEACH ORCHARD KILLING

LC sheriff Chuck Jackson

LOUISA, Ky. — An investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s office into the August 16, 2022 shooting death of a 45 year-old Lawrence County man who was shot by a “property owner”  is ongoing, a spokesperson for Sheriff Chuck Jackson said today.

Jackson and Commonwealth’s Attorney Tony Skeans said three weeks ago that the case would be brought before the September Grand Jury which meets the second Thursday of each month.

But when the Grand jury report came out for September the case involving the killing of Jerry Lee Maynard was not among the indictments.

Sheriff Jackson’s office released the following statement:

“…We had anticipated presenting it (Maynard case) to the grand jury at the September meeting but the case was not completed in time. We plan on presenting it at the October 13 meeting barring any unforeseen circumstances.”

Although local officials have not released the name of the person who shot and killed Maynard, many Peach Orchard residents say they know who did the shooting, but won’t give the name. There are also reports that drugs may have been involved in the incident.

One problem the sheriff’s men have is they went to the residence once and left and returned several hours later when the shooting took place. There may be no witnesses except the shooter.

An arrest warrant was issued for Greene Ramey, 42, also of Lawrence County was arrested near the scene but charges against him are unclear.

PEACH ORCHARD, KY. (August 16, 2022) — Lawrence County Sheriff Chuck Jackson just reported a fatal shooting early this morning near the Peach Orchard area of Lawrence County.

Jackson described the events leading up to and the actual killing as below on his FB page:

“…at approximately 06:20 a.m. the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Peach Orchard on reports of shots fired, possibly related to a burglary.

JERRY LEE MAYNARD

On arrival a witness stated one of the suspects, identified as 45 yr old Jerry Lee Maynard of Lawrence County was located in the woods by the property owner.

Maynard then disarms the property owner and a fight over the gun took place. Maynard was fatally shot during the struggle and pronounced deceased on scene by Lawrence County Coroner Wesley Heston.

Upon further investigation a warrant was obtained for second suspect, 42 yr old Greene Ramey, also of Lawrence County. Greene was arrested without incident and lodged at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

The incident is still under investigation by Chief Deputy M. Keefer of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.”

Do you just sit around waiting for opportunities to criticize the sheriff’s office? Your life must be pretty miserable.

LOL Bob….sure don’t have to sit long to see something they dropped the ball on!!! We need change and real leadership and law enforcement. Hasn’t done a quarter of what he promised he would. Oh well majority put him in there but boy did they get fooled!!

It’s not hard to figure out you are Wheeler or one of his few supporters making all these negative comments. Still mad about losing the last election.

LOL…you couldn’t be farther off on your accusation but nice try to continue the negativity and falsehoods that your candidate did. I just happen to be a very disappointed citizen who has set back and watched the law enforcement here in the county get set back 20 years and did not get what we were promised when all the campaigning was going on couple years ago. Evidently you are one of the very misguided children in Lawrence County same as the ones for the president. The sheriff race and president race turned out the same way….very disappointing. Have a great day!!

Well you say no witness but you say a witness on arrival said the man shot was located by property own is that what that says or am I confused .There were 3 shots heard and 5 minutes later one more that sound like it was at the bottom of that driveway not up on the hill .so close to my home .And I don’t recall any of of that live here were asked anything about that night .at least no one from Lawrence County side of peach orchid

Not even the person who called 911 was asked anything .isn’t that some who should have been talked to

I’m curious why they won’t release the name of the shooter I mean was the shooter even the property owner this is so confusing and makes absolutely no sense what so ever who is the property owner

Why are the comments moderated I thought we had freedom of speech

  6. Questions two murdered on peach orchard says:

This is the second murder in that area. And to be honest you have done nothing about figuring out what happened to the Daniel’s man. And now this shooting is murder because the man hunted him down left his property to find him. He was no longer a threat or danger once he left that property. But im gonna just be plain spoken nobody’s going to do a damn thing because of the people who where murdered had a history. That’s sad because there human beings nobody deserves that!

    • JERRYS DAUGHTERS!!! Jerry’s FAMILY says:

Your completely right, this is one for the 4 DAUGHTERS jerry has. He had a past but that doesn’t give anyone a right to take someone’s daughters their father away, someone’s husband away. Someone will pay for what they done to my father. He was the best man I ever met, not to mention he has a 1 YEAR OLD GRAND DAUGHTER! They took our dad away for what exactly? This will not get brushed over I promise on that! You will get justice dad I’ll fight with everything I have to make sure they get what they deserve!
