PEACH ORCHARD, KY. (August 16, 2022) — Lawrence County Sheriff Chuck Jackson just reported a fatal shooting early this morning near the Peach Orchard area of Lawrence County.
Jackson described the events leading up to and the actual killing as below on his FB page:
“…at approximately 06:20 a.m. the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Peach Orchard on reports of shots fired, possibly related to a burglary.
On arrival a witness stated one of the suspects, identified as 45 yr old Jerry Lee Maynard of Lawrence County was located in the woods by the property owner.
Maynard then disarms the property owner and a fight over the gun took place. Maynard was fatally shot during the struggle and pronounced deceased on scene by Lawrence County Coroner Wesley Heston.
Upon further investigation a warrant was obtained for second suspect, 42 yr old Green Ramey, also of Lawrence County. Green was arrested without incident and lodged at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
The incident is still under investigation by Chief Deputy M. Keefer of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.”
THE REPORT DOES NOT NAME THE PROPERTY OWNER WHO SHOT MAYNARD.
Notice in the press release the sheriff refers to Ramey as “Green was arrested without incident”. Nice when your local law enforcement leader is on a first name basis with a multiple time felon which nothing seems to get done with…..not surprising! Feel sorry for LC.
Blame the courts for not doing anything. They are the ones that keep letting them out. Sheriff Jackson and his deputies do a fantastic job. Stop nitpicking at everything the Sheriff’s office does. You must be one of Wheeler’s cronies, still mad about losing the last election.
LOL…another one of those buy everything being sold to them. I do agree a couple of the deputies do a great job but the sheriff and the two that have been there since before chuckie started his term don’t do much. Proof is in the pudding. Sure is sad people have forgot what is like to have real law enforcement and having a sheriff and deputies who knew how to do their job and didn’t play politics!!
What proof do you have? Anytime I have needed anything from that office, every employee and deputy have been nothing but helpful. You are obviously holding a grudge against Sheriff Jackson.
Just ask the family who the sheriffs office botched their family’s investigation up and possibly a murderer running free. LC is lacking in the law enforcement area now due to bad decision couple years ago. Hopefully some day can get back on track. Need a sheriff and not a politician!! We have went back to the late 90’s/early 00’s!

Well it is a known fact he is a multiple time felon and known for stealing! Interesting they were supposedly trying to get stuff that had been stolen from them. Reckon it is ok for him to steal off everyone else but lord don’t steal his stuff! Karma!!

Personally I think the home owner and whoever shot him is a weak ass u know what. He didn’t deserve that he got the gun away , he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone or Jerry wouldve he didn’t mean anyone no harm he wasn’t going there to rob anyone either that’s bs.

Wow the homeowner I know myself is crazy I seen that with my own eyes 105 pound woman can’t take down roofing by herself and steal it which is what he accused her of doing.she was terrified she thought he was going to hurt her. And Jerry Maynard was a great dad to his girls and was never someone who went to steal from people .And we heard the gun shots and there were 5 shots fired like someone was struggling thena few minutes later another so sounds to me like he took his gun and gave it back and I bet he was shot in the back of the head when he gave the gun back and walked away .you guys running your mouths when you don’t know shit.your all low God is the only one to judge him not none of you and by the way he was found on my husband’s uncles land not the homeowner how is that right
The sheriff’s office needs to talk to the Terry’s because he was not found on the homeowner property the only thing that belongs to homeowner is were the trailer are I know my family was last to own it
