91 NEW COVID CASES IN LAST 7 DAYS IN LAWRENCE COUNTY; 299 NEW CASES IN LAST THREE WEEKS

VACCINATION NUMBERS FINALLY IN THE MAJORITY FOR LAWRENCE COUNTY, BUT INFECTION RATE MADE LAWRENCE COUNTY THE THIRD HIGHEST TOTAL IN THE STATE LAST WEEK

DECEMBER 14, 2021 – written by WADE QUEEN

LOUISA, KY. — Even with a moderate surge of coronavirus vaccination rates in the last couple of weeks in Lawrence County, a much higher surge in the numbers of new positive COVID cases has taken place.

Since Tuesday, November 23, to Monday, December 13, 2021, there have been 299 new COVID positive cases; of which 65 were vaccinated and are breakthrough cases; and 13 have been hospitalized. There have sadly been two new COVID deaths, while one previous case that had been ruled as a COVID death, was reversed and is now not a COVID death.

That is in comparison to the period from Friday, October 29, to Monday, November 22, 2021; when there were 119 new COVID cases; 22 were vaccinated; just 4 were hospitalized and there were 9 COVID deaths.

The recent major surge of new COVID cases in Lawrence County (and across the state), has caused the incidence rate for Lawrence County to soar recently; on Friday, December 3, it was at 76. 5, and by Monday, December 6, 2021 it was at 100.8; which made Lawrence County the third highest incidence positive rate, behind Cumberland County at #1 with 133.9, followed by Robertson County (which just happens to be the smallest county in land size & population) at #2 with 108.4. Lawrence County’s incidence rate for December 14 is down to  75. 5; with little Robertson County today at #1, soaring to 149.1 – the only county in the state over 100. Meanwhile neighboring Elliott County is currently the second lowest in the state, at 11.4

The good news for Lawrence County, according to local health officials, is that the vaccination rate has improved for the county. On December 3, the county’s vaccination rate was at 49.23% of the population. By Monday, December 13, those numbers had improved, as vaccination rates in the county are now at 51% of the total population having now been vaccinated, which includes 62% of those 18 and older, and 81% of those 65 and older.

It is likely that new Covid case numbers for Lawrence County will remain high in the red through early to middle January 2022.
