THIRD THURSDAY MUSIC IN THE PARK IS ‘FROM THE HILLS’

KINGSMORE HOPES TO BUILD EVENT 'AS BIG AS THE 4TH OF JULY' EVERY MONTH

The intermittent rain on Thursday night did not dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd that attended the June Music in the Park event.  Those who braved the rain chances were treated to an entertaining show by the band “From the Hills”.  FT Hills band, which has a local connection with guitar player Jay Mabry, has a substantial fan following in the local tri-state area and can be found playing at various venues on weekends.

The food vendors were kept busy throughout the event.  Hillbilly Hibachi, Meatheads Grill and Kona Ice fed the crowd and fed them well!  Other vendors at the event included the Tip-Off Club selling drinks, Fred M Vinson Museum staff selling books and Judy Watts Damron with Paparazzi Jewelry.

Wes Kingsmore, director of Tourism, hopes that the Third Thursday event becomes a “go-to” event for locals and visitors alike.

“I would love to see this event become as well-attended as 4th of July events or even Septemberfest events!  Too many times we hear that we “don’t have anything to do in Louisa” and this is just one way to show folks just what we do have,” Kingsmore said.  “We are hoping that all of our bands have local connections so that our community understands what type of talent we have in this area.”

“The operator of Kona Ice said that she loved this event because she was able to work her truck, listen to awesome music and then get some delicious food.  She also said that the people in Louisa were some of the friendliest that she had met.”

The next Third Thursday event is planned for July 18th and will be a joint venture between Tourism, Addiction Recovery Care and the Lawrence County Public Library.  LC Public Library is sponsoring a Kentucky Chautauqua show with David Hurt appearing as Grandpa Jones “Country Musician and Comic”.  This show travels throughout the state of Kentucky entertaining and educating Kentuckians about the life and career of Grandpa Jones. Grandpa Jones is known to most of us (of a certain age) from the country music show Hee-Haw but many don’t realize that he was born in Kentucky.  The music, which will be sponsored by ARC, will be contemporary Christian music.

LC Tourism wants to encourage vendors to become a part of Third Thursday.  “We are trying to keep our vendors from duplicating each other.  We want to offer different food choices and sale items for our attendees” stated Cathi Kise Wells, co-organizer of the event.  If you are interested in setting up on July 18th, please send us a message on our Facebook page Lawrence County Tourism Commission-Kentucky.

I would like to be a vendor at this event next year. I had not heard of this one before. I make handmade wreaths for all occasions. Thank you.
