5th Annual Suicide Awareness Fundraiser

In Memory of Philip Deer

National Suicide Prevention Month – September was a time to remember the lives lost to suicide, acknowledge the millions more who have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the many individuals, families and communities that have been impacted by suicide. It’s also a time to raise awareness about suicide prevention and share messages of hope.  We hope to put a spotlight on this town’s participations with the 5th Annual Fundraiser held on Memory of one of our town’s own, Philip Deer, a young man gone way too soon.

Suicide is on the rise in this country every 11 seconds someone commits suicide. This is an astounding number and Debbie Bartley, and her family in Ft. Gay, W.Va. have felt this tragedy of losing their son, Philip. The foundation’s current goal is to purchase a Mobile Trailer ran  on donations. Debbie says, “I will always always be his voice”. The foundation hopes to educate people on the warning signs of suicide. While raising money thru donations such as The Auction held by the local chapter of ‘Brothers of the Wheel’ and their Sponsors.

SUICIDE WARNING SIGNS can be Talking about or making plans for suicide, Acting Anxious or agitated; behaving recklessly, Talking about being a burden to others, Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain, Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs, Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live, Sleeping too little or too much, Withdrawing or feeling isolated, Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge, Displaying extreme mood swings, Anger or hostility that seems out of character or out of context, Withdrawal from or changing social connections/situations. Don’t be afraid to ask someone if they’re ok and don’t be scared to reach out if you’re experiencing these feelings.

Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is designed to call, text or chat 988 to speak with a caring counselor so you know your not alone.
