CYCLISTS TOUR LAWRENCE COUNTY

35 cyclists from 3 states line downtown Louisa before they begin their 63 mile bike ride of Lawrence County.

If you happened to be in downtown Louisa around 9 am on Saturday morning, you may have seen a few bicycles downtown!  Thirty-five cyclists from Ohio, WV and Kentucky (representing 6 bicycle clubs) came to tour Lawrence County on the seat of a bicycle and the tour was an impressive 63 miles through Fallsburg, Webbville and Blaine.

Wes Kingsmore, local avid cyclist and Tourism director, coordinated the event.  Kingsmore wanted to show his fellow cyclists that Lawrence County had much to offer if a rider was looking for good roads, beautiful scenery, challenging hills and friendly people.

Cyclists make their first break at Fallsburg Country Store.

The event kicked off at the Masterpiece Café at 9 am and then proceeded around town, out “new” Hwy 32, Two-Mile Hill to Cottonwood Road and then turned on Hwy 1185.  The crew rode back on Hwy 3 for a short time until they turned on Yatesville Road and continued onto Spank’em Branch Road back down to Hwy 3 where they enjoyed their first stop at the Fallsburg Country Store.  They proceeded north on Hwy 3 to Hwy 1 going to Webbville and taking Hwy 201 all the way to Blaine where they enjoyed another stop at Kimbers Country Market in Blaine.  The cyclists then headed back on Hwy 32 all the way back into Louisa where they were able to enjoy a meal at Dees Drive Inn at the end of their ride.

Cyclists take a break at Kimbers Country Market in Blaine, KY before they head up Blaine Hill and Adams Hill on their way back to Louisa.

“We were extremely pleased with the number of participants that we had and I have to say that the drivers throughout the county for the most part were very courteous to our riders”, said Kingsmore.  Kingsmore stated that several of the participants said that they wanted to return for another ride and bring more of their club members with them.  He also said that many of the cyclists talked about how friendly everyone was that they met along their “tour”.

Thanks to the following people and businesses for supporting this event:  The Louisa City Police Department, Lawrence County Tourism Committee, Masterpiece Café, Fallsburg Country Store, Kimbers Country Market, Louisa/Lawrence County Trail Town Committee and Bob and Cathi Wells, who drove the support vehicle along the course.
